Cardinal Cisneros, Santa María de la Cabeza and San Isidro Labrador were born here, and its historic quarter is on a par with such illustrious personages. Cardinal Cisneros spared no expense to enlarge the town. Highlights include the church of Santa María Magdalena, an example of Madrid Gothic architecture, the Pósito (granary), the Hospital de San Bartolomé and the Franciscan Convent of the Madre de Dios. Corpus Christi has regained its former importance and the locals decorate the neighbourhoods and streets with flowers and altars for the passage of the Blessed Sacrament.
Here Cary Grant lived his Pride and Passion with Sophia Loren, and Frank Sinatra was a witness to it, because Torrelaguna has been and is the setting for many films. After a good stew in a clay pot, you can stroll through the natural surroundings of the Valle Medio del Jarama: a landscape with a rich hydraulic heritage, having been the first headquarters of the Canal de Isabel II.
