An Illustrated Corner in Madrid
Monumental complex of Churriguera - Javierada
One morning, back in 1700, Juan de Goyeneche y Gastón, a politician from Navarre living in Madrid, decided that here he was going to found a glass factory and a town for his craftsmen. And so he did. Nuevo Baztán is a unique example of an Enlightenment town. A newly built town, with a monumental baroque palace-church and its unique historic quarter. An impressive architectural ensemble designed by Churriguera. All born of the dream and ambition of an enlightened man who wanted to change Spain. Get to know his fascinating work in the interesting Interpretation Centre. Nuevo Baztán is a little corner of Navarre in our Region due to the origins of its founder, which is why it has its own Javierada, Madrid's version of the traditional march to the castle that is held throughout Navarre on the second weekend in March. Here they also have their own wines, which have received several awards, with which to accompany the roast specialities of their rich gastronomic offer.
