Faunia is a large thematic and natural space that houses more than 1200animals of 152 different species. They live in 4 ecosystems and 15 thematicareas adapted to each species, with their own habitat, temperature, light andhumidity conditions. All of them are spread over 16 hectares with a topographyenhanced by lakes and ponds, in a space located in the city of Madrid.
Four of the most extraordinary ecosystems in the world are represented in Faunia:
- The Jungle: Where you will meet manatees, macaws, toucans, and severalspecies of marmosets, among other animals and feel the heat and rain of atropical storm.
- Ecosystem of the Poles: Travel to the most remote places in Antarcticawithout leaving Madrid at Faunia. Here you can enjoy the underwater races ofmore than 100 penguins of 6 different species, in the largest Polar Ecosystemin Europe.
- The African Forest: Welcome to one of the most fascinating habitats onearth, the island of Madagascar. A miracle of natural evolution, it is home to5% of the world's endemic species. You will be able to see three species oflemurs and numerous colourful birds.
- The Temperate Forest: Don't miss this amazing area which is home to agreat variety of animals from the temperate regions of the world, such as themuntjac, the mazama or the damselfly crane.
In addition, in the themed areas of Faunia you will enter a noctuary illuminatedonly by the light of the full moon where you will see fascinating animals suchas the ocelot, the two-toed sloth or the aardvark. You will cross a karstgrotto in Mysteries Underground, to meet animals that live in the depths suchas the mole rat or the chlamydosaurus. You can also walk through an Australian grassland to meet the Bennet's wallaby, visit a mangrove swamp with impressiveNile crocodiles or discover lots of venomous animals such as snakes, spiders orjellyfish, among others. From the moment the visit begins, nature, learning and fun are guaranteed for the whole family!
Faunia also offers educational activities on marine mammals and birds ofprey, educational talks on some of the most representative species and thechance to get up close and personal with sea bears, manatees, penguins,pelicans, and crocodiles in their interactions with animals to make the visitan authentic nature experience.
