Athol Fugard's The Road to Mecca is inspired by a real woman, Helen Martins, who rebelled against all the precepts of her time. A woman who pursues desire, the light of inspiration that belongs to no age or generation. Someone who prefers questions to certainties, who values her freedom and autonomy in the face of her time and the world around her.

As I read it, I heard Lola Herrera's voice pulsing through every text. Without any transcendence, the desire to live freely and intensely floats in the air.

We wanted to put together a cast that would make the trip enriching and enjoyable, because we all feel this will be a completely transformative experience.

I'm honored and excited about this new project, which I believe will remain in the minds and hearts of those involved in it and every viewer who joins us.
