The most important museum in the history of Spain

Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sundays and public holidays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The National Archaeological Museum (MAN) is the most important history museum in Spain. Located in the heart of Madrid, on Calle Serrano, it is housed in a historic building known as the Palace of the Library and National Museums, built in the 19th century to house its collections and other institutions.

Its permanent exhibition presents a chronological journey through the history of Spain from prehistoric times to 1867, when the museum was founded by Queen Isabella II. In its 40 rooms, divided into 3 thematic areas, it has 13,000 exhibits. Among the masterpieces it houses, visitors can find iconic pieces such as the Lady of Elche, the statue of the Roman empress Livia or the Visigothic crowns from the Treasure of Guarrazar, as well as many other objects that illustrate Spanish history. It also holds collections from the Near East, Nubia, Egypt and Greece.

Since 2014, the date of its reopening after a complete renovation, it has spacious and modern facilities that make the visit even more attractive.
