The action takes place in some of the most popular neighborhoods of Madrid in 1894, the date of the premiere, and during the festival of the Virgin of La Paloma. However, Julián is not there for any celebration, as he suspects that Susana, his girlfriend, does not want to go with him to the festival because she is going out with a lover. For her part, Susana, fed up with her partner's constant jealousy, decides to accept Don Hilarión's proposals. A fact that will trigger numerous imbroglios between the protagonists.
