Surrealism, art and cinema
From December 5, 2024 to May 4, 2025
Max Ernst: Surrealism, Art and Film, the first exhibition to offer a unique journey through the life and career of Max Ernst, combining the presence of pieces in different media: paintings, sculptures, collages, frottages, illustrated books, photographs, all of them selected for their connections with the seventh art. An innovative and unprecedented approach to the work of the famous German surrealist artist.
Produced by Sold Out and the Círculo de Bellas Artes in collaboration with Madeinart, and curated by Martina Mazzotta and Jürgen Pech, the exhibition reveals the most relevant aspects of Max Ernst’s life and work in relation to cinema. In fact, the cinematographic medium represents a parallel and ever-present path in the artist’s extensive career, which connected many people and artistic groups, and offered original points of view throughout seven decades of the 20th century, greatly reveling in experimentation.
This is the first time that an exhibition on Max Ernst has been presented with this particular focus, as a result of an unprecedented investigation. Until May 4 at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid
