A musical, a fable, an experience

GO TO THE SITE

The mother of all musicals! The jewel of the Golden Age of Broadway. Gypsy is one of the best American musicals of all time and for the first time it comes to Spain. With a libretto by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, it is an original production by Antonio Banderas, with musical direction by Arturo Díez Boscovich, translation of the libretto by María Ruiz, translation of lyrics by Roser Batalla and choreography by Borja Rueda.

Musical theatre star Marta Ribera stars in Gypsy as Rose, accompanied by Lydia Fairén as Louise, Carlos Seguí as Herbie, and Laia Prats playing June. The show will feature three of the original choreographies by Jerome Robbins (one of the great choreographers and directors in the history of musicals such as West Side Story or Fiddler on the Roof among many others).

Gypsy is the definitive story about an ambitious “performer’s mother” who strives for her daughters’ success, while secretly yearning for her own. Loosely based on the memoirs of burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee, its central plot revolves around the character of Gypsy’s mother Rose, a ruthless woman who seeks to turn her daughters into vaudeville stars at any cost.

Loosely inspired by 1920s and 1930s America, when vaudeville and burlesque were born, Arthur Laurents' landmark musical explores the world of show business with humor, heart and sophistication.
