11/19/2024 - 3/2/2025
Until 2 March 2025, the Museo del Prado and the AXA Foundation are presenting “Shaking Hands. Sculpture and Colour in the Golden Age” in Rooms A and B of the Jerónimos Building, an exhibition that reflects on the success of Baroque polychrome sculpture and its complementarity with painting. It does so through a spectacular set design that houses almost a hundred sculptures by great masters such as Gaspar Becerra, Alonso Berruguete, Gregorio Fernández, Damián Forment, Juan de Juni, Francisco Salzillo, Juan Martínez Montañés and Luisa Roldán. Alongside them, paintings and engravings that, like a game of mirrors, emulate or reproduce them, and classical pieces that bear witness to the importance of colour in sculpture since ancient times.
